I had the opportunity to go to Ft. Worth to see the Ron Mueck exhibit today ( thanks Mike ). I had never heard of him, but had seen his stuff on the internet.




Picture yourself at this dude's toe, you would come up to the ankle maybe. Mueck does huge extremely lifelike human sculptures out of silicone, rubber, and other stuff. So life-like, you see pores and veins. On "big man" right here, it felt like if you stared long enough, he would switch positions.



The way he does it: he first makes an intricate clay sculpture, then makes a plaster mould of it. He carefully breaks the mould off, and paints the interior all the flesh tones that will transfer to the silicone/rubber he pours in later. He pours in the silicone, attaches all the parts, then does all the finishing touches. The hair...is poked into the body ONE STRAND AT A TIME. The detail is incredible. It seemed all the expressions of the fake people were that of quiet desperation, and they were either freakishly large like "big man" and "in bed" above, or they were freakishly small. This is one exhibit one should see in person to appeciate the intricacy. Very, very cool.
